Common Questions
Everything you want to know before getting started
Considering therapy — or just curious about how this works? We've answered the questions we hear most often below.
General Questions
What is therapy, really — and how does it help?
Therapy is a structured, confidential conversation with a trained professional — but it's much more than just "talking about your problems." Through therapy, you gain insight into patterns of thought and behavior, develop concrete coping skills, process unresolved experiences, and build the emotional tools to navigate life more effectively. Research consistently shows that therapy produces lasting changes in how the brain processes stress, emotion, and relationships.
What is a typical first session like?
Your first session is primarily about getting to know you — your background, what brought you to therapy, and what you're hoping to work on. There's no pressure to share anything you're not ready to discuss. By the end of the intake session, you and Andrea will have a sense of whether you're a good fit and what the work ahead might look like.
How long does therapy typically take?
There's no single answer — it depends on your goals and what you're working through. Some clients achieve significant progress in 8–12 focused sessions. Others prefer long-term support over months or years. Sessions are typically weekly at first, then may shift to biweekly as things stabilize. You and Andrea will regularly check in to make sure therapy is serving you well.
Is what I share in therapy confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is foundational to therapy. Nothing you share leaves the room — with limited legal exceptions required of all licensed therapists (imminent safety risk to yourself or others, mandated reporting of child or elder abuse). Andrea will explain these fully before your first session.
Insurance & Fees
What insurance plans do you accept?
A Resilient Tomorrow accepts Aetna, Cigna, Florida Blue, Oxford, Oscar, and UHC/Optum. This is one of the widest insurance footprints available among Tampa's specialty practices. Call the member services number on your card to verify your specific mental health coverage and copay amounts.
What if I don't have insurance or my plan isn't listed?
Contact the office directly to discuss out-of-pocket rates and options. You may also be eligible for a superbill (an itemized receipt you submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement).
How do I verify my insurance benefits?
The easiest way is to call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask: "Do I have outpatient mental health benefits? What is my copay and deductible for in-network outpatient therapy?" You can also request that our office verify benefits when scheduling.
Telehealth & Sessions
Is telehealth therapy as effective as in-person?
Research consistently shows that telehealth therapy produces outcomes equivalent to in-person sessions for most conditions, including anxiety, depression, and ADHD. Many clients actually prefer the privacy and convenience of connecting from home.
What technology do I need for telehealth?
A smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera and microphone — and a stable internet connection. Sessions are conducted via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. No special software is required; you'll receive a link before each session.
Can I have in-person sessions?
In-person sessions are available for established clients at the Tampa office (8341 Gunn Highway, Tampa FL 33626). All initial (intake) sessions are virtual.
What are your office hours?
Monday: 10am–2pm · Tuesday through Thursday: 10am–3pm · Friday: 10am–2pm · Weekends: Closed. All sessions are by appointment only.
